Sheela is a Malayalam film actress from India.She was born in March 22, 1945 in Thrissur. She holds, along with Prem Nazir, the Guinness book record for acting in the largest number of films (107) together ecutively. In 2005 she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Malayalam film Akale.Sheela's career as an actress began as a substitute in a play organised by railway employees. Sheela made her debut in `Paasom' opposite MGR. Her first film in Malayalam was `Bhagyajathakom,' with Satyan.
The next two decades saw her essay roles in more than 410 films in films such as `Chemeen,' `Kallichellama,' and `Vazhve Mayom.' She has won many awards such as Kerala State awards, the Lux award (five times), and the Filmfare Life Achievement award.Sheela was married to Tamil actor Ravichandran who later orced, she has a son George, who is a actin in Tamil serials.In the 70s and 80s, Sheela's tried her hand at directing as well. She directed two films, `Yakshaganom' and `Shikarangal'. She wrote the story, script and creenplay for 'Shikharangal', which was also remade in Tamil. Besides films, she has directed a tele-film `Ninaivukale neengividu' in which Jayabharati acted.Sheela returned to silverscreen playing main role in Sathyan thikkadu's "Manassinackare". The film was a huge hit, with Sheela receiving great reviews for her performance. She is currently active in movies as well as televisionHer father Y.V. Rao, originally from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, was an noted filmmaker and actor whose films dealt with important social issues. Her mother Rukmini was a Tamil actress, whose mother Nungambakkam Janaki was also an actress. They eased Lakshmi into films, making her a third-generation film actress. She was fifteen when she started acting in films. Her first film was a Tamil film titled "Jeevanamsam" in 1968. She became a star in South India in the 1970s and acted in all four South Indian languages in which she is fluent: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Her Malayalam hit Chattakkari (1974) was remade in Hindi as Julie (1975) and in Telugu as "Miss Julie Prema Katha" (1975). "Julie" became a hit, and Lakshmi received the Filmfare Best Actress Award and the Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for "most outstanding work of the year." After her success in "Julie," however, she didn't star in many Hindi films and instead concentrated on doing more South Indian films. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for the Tamil film Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal (1975), becoming one of the first South Indian actresses to win in that category for a Tamil film. When her career as a leading lady ended in the 1980s, she started playing supporting roles as mother and later as grandmother. She played grandmothers to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Jeans (1998) and Kareena Kapoor in Hulchul (2004). She has performed in more than 400 films. She has also been involved in politics.In 1989 sridevi portrayed twin sisters in ChaalBaaz and won her the first Hindi Filmfare Best Actress Award. The same year her she also played the title role in Yash Chopra's Chandni.Yash Chopra again cast her in his inter-generational romance Lamhe released in 1991. Despite failing at the box office, the film went on to become a modern cult classic and one of the biggest hits in the overseas territory. While the film won the Filmfare Best Film Award, Sridevi's intense performance as mother and daughter won her the second Filmfare Best Actress Award and much international acclaim.In 1992, she starred opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Khuda Gawah, where she had another double role as a pining Afghan wife and her spirited daughter which won her another Filmfare nomination. The Telugu film Kshana Kshanam directed by Ram Gopal Verma was released in the same year and brought her her fourth Filmfare Award and a Nandi Award for Best Actress. The failure of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993) was a big setback to her career, but she continued to deliver fine performances. She starred as the innocent victim trapped for drug smuggling in Mahesh Bhatt's thriller Gumrah (1993 and played a rich businesswoman with grey shades in Laadla (1994). In Judaai released in 1997, Sridevi played the role of a greedy housewife who sells her husband to another woman for a rich life. Her trademark performance won her her eighth Filmfare nomination after which she took a break to settle in matrimony.
