Tamil Actress Movies Biography
Born as Rachna into a Punjabi Chawla family on August 21st 1978 in Delhi, Bhumika is affectionately called Gudiya. Her father and brother serve as officers in the Indian Army. Bhumika Chawla after completing her schooling from Delhi moved to Mumbai, the city of dreams in the year 1997. Bhumika began her career by featuring in music videos and TV commercials. She was seen in Zee TV’s popular show ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ and got noticed in the 'Ponds Talcum Powder' advertisement.
 Bhumika Chawla made her cinematic debut in 2000 release Telugu film ‘Yuvakudu’ opposite actor Sumanth. Her first commercially successful film ‘Kushi’ in Telugu was released in the year 2001. She starred opposite Pawan Kalyan in ‘Kushi’ and won accolades for her realistic performance. She later appeared in a number of Telugu smash hits like ‘Okkadu’ opposite Mahesh Babu, ‘Missamma’, ‘Naa Autograph’, and ‘Simhadri’ etc. She also acted in Tamil films like ‘Badri’ and ‘Roja Kootam’, Bhojpuri smash hit ‘Gangotri’, Punjabi mega hit ‘Yaarian’ and a Malayalam movie ‘Bhramaram’.
However her most riveting performance was seen in her Hindi debut film ‘Tere Naam’ opposite superstar Salman Khan. A passionate love story ‘Tere Naam’ was directed by Satish Kaushik and was the remake of the 1999 Tamil super hit film ‘Sethu’ starring Vikram and Abitha. The film became the highest grossing film of the year and won critical accolades. ‘Tere Naam’ was loved by audiences and Bhumika received a Filmfare and Zee Cine Best Actress nomination for her performance.
Bhumika Chawla later appeared opposite Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Run’, Salman Khan in ‘Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha’, Rahul Bose in ‘Silsilay’, Akshay Kumar in ‘Family’ and Karan Sharma in ‘Dil Jo Bhi Kahey’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
Bhumika Chawla received CineMAA Jury Award for Best Actress for her Telugu film ‘Naa Autograph’ while her subsequent release ‘Jai Chiranjeeva’, alongside Chiranjeevi and Sameera Reddy became a huge commercial success.
Bhumika Chawla’s performance as Gulab Gandhi in the Hindi film ‘Gandhi, My Father’ received rave reviews and eventually she was seen in films of different genres in different languages producing a stride of success at the box office.
After dating the renowned Yoga expert and instructor Bharat Thakur for around four years, the two tied the wedlock on 21 October 2007.
Bhumika Chawla received her first Filmfare Best Actress Award for the Telugu film ‘Kushi’ in the year 2001. She earned the coveted Nandi Award for Best Actress for ‘Missamma’ and Nandi Special Jury Award for ‘Sathyabhama’. Bhumika Chawla has been honored with Vamsee Award for Best Actress for three times for her performances in ‘Jai Chiranjeeva’, ‘Maya Bazaar’, ‘Anasuya’ & ‘Sathyabhama’.
 Bhumika Chawla is presently working on Hindi films ‘Naam’ and ‘Classmates’, Telugu films ‘Bheeshma’ and ‘Alivelu Manga’ and a Tamil film ‘Kalavadiya Pozhudugal’. # Ramya entered the sandalwoood industry with Kannada superhit movie “Abhi” starring against Puneet Rajkumar. It is to be noted that having faith in astrology her original name was changed from “Divya Spandana” to “Ramya” as her screen name. But she retains the origanal name “Divya” in her Tamil films, so only in tamilnadu she is popularly known as Divya only.
# She worked hard to loss a few kilos of weight in order to fit into the role of kannada film “Arrasu” and ultimately she was slim and charming after losing nearly eight kg .
# She also acted in a short film, which intends to create AIDS awareness. The film was by Meera Nair and directed by Santosh Sivan.
# The actress actively participated in stage shows and dances from her school days.
# She is considered to be “golden girl” in Kannada cinema industry as she has the success rate of close to 90% in her career.
