In 1973, Helen, Queen of the Nautch Girls, a 30-minute documentary film from Merchant Ivory Films, was released. Anthony Korner directed and narrated the film. A book about Helen was published by Jerry Pinto in 2006, titled The Life and Times of an H-Bomb,[5][6] which went on to win the National Film Award for Best Book on Cinema in 2007.

In January 1956, Helen was 15 years old when she moved in with film director P.N Arora who was already married and was 28 years older than her. He controlled her finances until 1973 when she discovered that he was spending her money without her consent. She was almost bankrupt as a result. She broke up with him on her 33rd birthday in November 21, 1973. [7][unreliable source?] In 1981, Helen married Salim Khan, and became his second wife and they adopted a girl, Arpita. Salman Khan is her stepson and she has acted as his mother in the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, as his grand mother-in-law in Khamoshi: The Musical and Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha and as his grandmother in the film Marigold.Latha became a very successful actress and has won several awards. She has acted in excess of one hundred films spanning Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Her debut film was Ulagam Sutrum Valiban (1973), in which she starred alongside M. G. Ramachandran. The film was significant as it achieved a level of technical prowess such as shooting underwater that has not been replicated till today in Tamil Cinema. It also was shot exclusively in foreign locations such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Japan, which was a first for Tamil Cinema. The film's success skyrocketed her to the top of the industry and she was felicitated by the press for being the best and most glamorous amongst all the four actresses in the film. She remained M. G. Ramachandran's leading lady for several years in Tamil films. He recommended her to star Akkineni Nageswara Rao for Andala Ramudu (1973), thus making her debut in Telugu films.[3] She specialized in playing glamorous roles in Tamil and Telugu films. She played the Zeenat Aman role in two remakes of Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973): the Telugu film Annadammula Anubandham(1975) and the Tamil film Naalai Namathay (1975). She won a Filmfare Award for her performance in Vattathukkul Sadhuram. The Kalaimamani award was bestowed upon her by the State Government of Tamil Nadu for her achievements in the film industry. She has also received awards from the Government of Tamil Nadu as well as the Government of Andhra Pradesh for her acting ability. She was also briefly involved in politics, as her father, Shanmugha Rajeswara Sethupathi, the Raja of Ramnad, was once a politician.[4] She played a vital role in Rajinikanth's movie, Shankar Salim Simon. This role made her one of the only 2 actresses, along with Lakshmi, to be paired with MGR & Rajinikanth in the 1970s Tamil movies.
After a hiatus of 14 years, she successfully reprised her career by acting in leading roles in many mega serials in Tamil and Telugu. In 2002, the actress played vicious mothers-in-law in Telugu television serials Eenati Ramayanam,[5] Pavithrabandham and Matti Manishi.[6]Most recently, she has gained much notoriety alongside Raadhika Sarathkumar in the Tamil television serials Chitthi, Selvi and most famously in Arase (Arasi). Her role in Arase (Arasi) is very popular amongst the demographic of Tamils that religiously follow mega serials, namely housewives and children. Her role is best known for her catchphrases 'Pada Pada Padannu irukkiradhu' and 'Idhu Rombo Too Much' and the humorous portrayal of the character.After completing her studies, Kanika decided to give herself a go at the Tinsel towns. She starred in the Kannada film Annavaru (2004), a remake of Mani Ratnam's Thalapathi (1991), stepping into Kannada filmdom, too. She followed the movie with a neat, cameo role in Cheran's Autograph, earning critical acclaim. Kanika next appeared in a comedy oriented role in a commercial film by K. S. Ravikumar, Aethiree along with Madhavan, Sada, in which she portrayed as a "naughty Brahmin girl".[6] Sify labelled her performance in the film as "outstanding".[9] She went on to play the female lead in Dancer opposite physically disabled Kutty,[10] following which she returned to Telugu cinema, accepting to reprise her role in the Telugu remake of Autograph, Naa Autograph, playing the same role as in the original version.[7] She proved to be an actress to reckon with in the Kannada film Sye, a remake of Tamil film Dhill. She finally ventured into Malayalam cinema as the heroine for the campus-based film Ennitum.
Later in 2006, she appeared in her biggest project till then, Varalaru, directed again by K. S. Ravikumar, in which she shared screen space with Ajith Kumar and Asin.
